From McDonald’s Runs to Global Stages”: Davido Reflects on Humble Beginnings and His Rise to Stardom
International Afrobeats superstar Davido has taken fans on an emotional journey down memory lane, sharing a powerful story from his early days of hustle and inspiration.
In a heartfelt post that’s now trending across social media, Davido opened up about a defining moment in 2008, when he was just a teenager hanging around music icons Don Jazzy and D’Banj in Atlanta. Though unknown at the time, he recalled being the young kid sent on errands—even in luxury.
“I still remember back in 2008, chilling at my father’s house in Atlanta… I was freestyling for Don Jazzy and D’Banj… I was sent on errands in my dad’s Rolls Royce to buy McDonald’s for them. Imagine that! Running around for the biggest stars in the game, but in my papa’s car!” he shared.
What stood out wasn’t just the flashy car—it was the humble positioning of a future megastar doing the groundwork.
Today, Davido is one of Africa’s most celebrated artists, with sold-out global tours, Grammy nominations, and Billboard chart placements under his belt. But he insists none of it came easy.
“Some people think I’m just lucky, some say I’m lying, but I lived that story… I earned every bit of it.”
Davido’s message hit home for many young creatives and hustlers across the continent. His story of grinding in the shadows before reaching stardom serves as a reminder that greatness often starts in the background.
-
Gratitude for the journey: He cherishes the seemingly small moments that shaped him.
-
Hard work over privilege: Despite his affluent background, he emphasizes grind over gifts.
-
Legacy-driven mindset: He sees his rise as a blueprint for others, not just a personal victory.
“That Rolls Royce wasn’t just a car; it was my first taste of what success looks like… Kings aren’t born; they’re made, one hustle at a time.”
