Stakeholders at the 47th National Council on Agriculture (NCA) have united in their call to strengthen support for youth farmers across Nigeria, emphasizing the critical role of young people in driving the nation’s agricultural transformation.
At the conference, participants highlighted the urgent need to prioritize policies and funding that empower young farmers through access to land, credit facilities, technology, and training opportunities. The Youth in Farming Initiative (YOFIN) received widespread endorsement as a viable platform to attract more young Nigerians into agriculture.
Speaking at the event, agricultural leaders and government representatives commended YOFIN’s vision to modernize farming practices and encourage entrepreneurship among youth, noting that sustainable food security can only be achieved with active youth participation in agribusiness.
Experts also called for stronger public-private partnerships to scale up YOFIN programs nationwide, ensuring that youth farmers receive the right mentorship and incentives to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
The 47th NCA, attended by key figures from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, state commissioners, agripreneurs, and international development partners, ended with a renewed commitment to make youth-driven agriculture a national priority.
