Woman’s Remarks at APC Calabar Campaign Rally Spark Reactions as Nigerians Debate Crowd Mobilisation

A woman’s remarks during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign activities in Calabar, Cross River State, have attracted attention on social media, with some Nigerians praising her for speaking out and demanding that her safety be protected.

The woman’s reported intervention has been shared alongside criticism of the ruling party’s campaign mobilisation, with commentators alleging that crowds are sometimes assembled through financial inducements to create an impression of widespread public support.

The controversy comes amid intensified political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections. On November 2, Vice-President Kashim Shettima led the APC campaign rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, where party leaders and supporters gathered.

The APC had also held engagements with market women in Calabar on November 1, led by former Minister Betta Edu, as part of its mobilisation efforts.

Reacting to the woman’s reported remarks, some social media users described her as courageous and argued that her comments reflected the frustration of many Nigerians.

One reaction accompanying the footage read: “This lady must be protected at all costs. She spoke for the entire Nigerian population.”

However, the allegation that the APC routinely pays people to attend its rallies has not been independently established in relation to the Calabar event. Claims about paid crowd mobilisation should therefore be treated as allegations rather than confirmed facts.

The incident has renewed discussion about political rallies, the authenticity of crowd displays and whether large gatherings necessarily translate into genuine electoral support.

As the 2027 elections approach, the episode highlights the importance of allowing citizens to express their political views freely, without intimidation or threats.
