“It Was a Prayer Walk, Not a Protest Against Jonathan” – Pastor Adeboye Clarifies

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his participation in a walk during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, insisting that the exercise was a prayer walk and not a political protest against the former president.

Adeboye acknowledged carrying a placard during the exercise but rejected claims that he did so as part of a protest against Jonathan's government.

According to the cleric, the activity was organised as a prayer walk following an instruction from the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) directing churches to participate.

“I carried the placard, I can’t deny that, but I did not carry it in protest against Jonathan. It was a prayer walk, and the CAN chairman instructed churches to do so,” Adeboye reportedly stated.

He also cautioned Nigerians against circulating unverified information, urging the public to investigate stories properly before sharing them on social media or other platforms.

“Always investigate before sharing unverified stories,” he advised.

The clarification comes amid discussions and renewed attention surrounding the cleric's past involvement in public demonstrations and activities during Jonathan's administration.

Adeboye's remarks seek to distinguish the religious exercise from political activism, stressing that the purpose of the walk was prayer rather than opposition to any government.
