2027: “We Won’t Allow INEC to Declare Just Any Results” — Man Warns Amupitan, Vows to Monitor Commission
A Nigerian man has issued a warning to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that citizens will closely monitor the electoral process and will not accept results they believe do not reflect the votes cast.
In a viral statement circulating on social media, the man directly addressed INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, insisting that Nigerians would pay close attention to the commission's activities before, during and after the elections.
“INEC should forget about this dream of us leaving them to declare whatever results.
“Joash Amupitan, we are going to follow you bumper to bumper in 2027,” he said.
The statement reflects growing public concerns about electoral transparency, result collation and the credibility of Nigeria's electoral process as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan has repeatedly assured Nigerians that the commission is preparing to conduct credible elections.
On October 31, 2026, he maintained that the 2027 election timetable was fixed and would not be changed. He also said INEC was working with security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials and election materials.
Amupitan has also acknowledged that INEC faces a serious trust deficit, warning its staff against avoidable errors that could create suspicions of deliberate manipulation. He has emphasised the importance of prompt result transmission and transparent procedures at polling units.
The INEC chairman has further stated that Nigerians, rather than artificial intelligence or computer algorithms, will determine the outcome of the 2027 elections.
The man's warning adds to public calls for stronger scrutiny of the electoral process, particularly the accreditation of voters, counting of ballots, collation of results and publication of official figures.
While citizens have the right to observe elections and demand accountability, any challenge to declared results is expected to follow the procedures provided by the Electoral Act and the courts.
As the 2027 elections approach, attention will remain on INEC's ability to build public confidence through transparency, accountability and the credible conduct of the polls.
The identity of the man in the circulating statement and the original date and location of the recording were not independently established.
