Young Man Allegedly Caught Trying to Steal Power Bank in Warri After Being Hired for Menial Work

A young man was reportedly caught in Ugbomoro, Warri, Delta State, after allegedly attempting to steal a power bank belonging to a person who had earlier engaged him to carry out menial work.

The incident, which was shared online, has generated reactions over the circumstances surrounding the alleged attempted theft.

According to an eyewitness account accompanying the report, the young man was initially given money to dispose of dirt as part of the work he had been hired to do.

The eyewitness reportedly said:

“Them first give m money to carry dirty, based on na he job be that, he do finish e no carry the dirty, na there e com take thief the power bank.”

The account suggests that after completing the assigned work, the young man allegedly attempted to take the power bank.

It was not immediately clear from the account how the alleged attempt was discovered, whether the power bank was successfully taken, or whether the young man was handed over to the police.

There was also no immediate independent confirmation from the Delta State Police Command concerning the incident.

The incident comes amid broader concerns over theft and property-related crimes in parts of Delta State.

The Delta State Police Command has recently reported arrests and recoveries linked to alleged robbery and theft cases across the state, including operations around the Warri axis. In September, police said they recovered several suspected stolen items, including electrical equipment, televisions, generators and other property, during operations targeting suspected criminals. 

A separate community sensitisation programme in Delta also highlighted concerns about vandalism and theft of public infrastructure, with stakeholders calling for increased vigilance and stronger community monitoring. 

However, those wider incidents are separate from the Ugbomoro case and do not independently establish the circumstances of the reported power-bank incident.

The young man's identity, the identity of the alleged victim and the eventual outcome of the incident were not disclosed in the account available at the time of publication.
