President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has blamed opposition parties for the hunger and poverty confronting Nigerians, while promising prosperity for the country’s children if his administration secures a second term in office.
Tinubu made the remarks while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign flag-off in Kaduna today, October 25, 2026.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did!” the President declared, challenging his political opponents over their criticism of the country’s economic situation.
Addressing young Nigerians, Tinubu offered a promise of a more prosperous future, saying: “To you, the children of our country, it’s a promise of a second term – prosperity; you will not regret it.”
The President’s comments come amid continuing public concern about the cost of living, food affordability and economic hardship across Nigeria. His remarks place the issues of hunger and poverty at the centre of the political contest, with the ruling party and opposition expected to face scrutiny over their records, policies and proposed solutions.
Tinubu’s promise of prosperity in a second term raises questions about the measures his administration would pursue to improve household incomes, reduce food prices, create employment opportunities and ease the financial pressure on Nigerian families.
The Kaduna campaign event provides another platform for the APC to present its political message and seek public support, as economic conditions and the welfare of citizens remain key issues in national political debate.
