Peter Obi Calls for Accountability, Blames Political Class for Nigeria’s Challenges

Former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticized Nigeria’s political leadership, arguing that the country’s persistent challenges are largely the result of poor accountability among leaders.

Obi made the remarks while speaking on governance, economic management, and national development, stressing that those in positions of authority must be held responsible for policy failures and worsening living conditions across the country.

According to him, Nigeria’s struggles in areas such as unemployment, inflation, insecurity, and infrastructure decay cannot be separated from decades of leadership decisions that failed to prioritize citizens’ welfare.

He maintained that meaningful progress would require a shift in political culture, where leaders are not only elected but also consistently held accountable for their performance while in office.

Obi further emphasized that transparency, prudent resource management, and citizen-focused governance remain essential for rebuilding public trust and strengthening national development outcomes.

His comments have continued to generate discussion among political observers, with supporters describing his stance as a call for responsible governance, while critics argue that Nigeria’s challenges are also shaped by deeper structural and institutional constraints.

The statement adds to ongoing national debates about leadership responsibility and the need for reforms in Nigeria’s democratic and economic systems.
