Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀ Questions Okonkwo’s Atiku Defence, Says He Struggles to Explain What Atiku Will Do

Hon. Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀ has questioned recent comments by Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign, accusing him of struggling to explain what his candidate would do differently if elected in 2027.

In a post shared on X, Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀ reacted to Okonkwo’s recent political commentary, particularly his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his advocacy for Atiku’s political programme.

“Kenneth Okonkwo just said Atiku has plans yet he (Kenneth) is struggling to explain what Atiku will do. He said the President is living a flamboyant lifestyle,” Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀ wrote.

Okonkwo, a former spokesperson for Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, is now a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and spokesperson for Atiku’s presidential campaign organisation.

He has recently defended Atiku’s proposed policies while criticising aspects of the Tinubu administration, particularly its economic policies.

During a recent interview, Okonkwo defended Atiku’s proposed Fuel Affordability Plan, arguing that the former vice president’s approach would focus on reducing production costs rather than returning to the previous petrol subsidy arrangement.

Okonkwo has also argued that the opposition needs to unite behind a single presidential candidate if it is to mount a serious challenge to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

His political position has also attracted attention because of his previous role as an advocate for Obi. In September, Okonkwo said he had been misled when defending Obi against claims concerning debts and financial obligations allegedly linked to the former Anambra governor's administration, saying he was prepared to change his position when fresh facts emerged.

Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀’s latest post appears to focus on the contrast between Okonkwo’s criticism of the incumbent administration and his explanation of what Atiku’s proposed alternative would entail.

The comments come as political parties and their supporters increasingly debate the economic records, policy proposals and leadership programmes of the major contenders ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The characterization of the President’s lifestyle and the criticism of Okonkwo’s explanation of Atiku’s plans are Ọmọtọ́ńsọrẹ̀’s political commentary and do not by themselves establish the claims as independently verified facts.
