‘Nobody Will Ever Be Wiz’ — Asake Praises Wizkid’s Unique Legacy

Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake has praised Grammy-winning singer Wizkid, describing the music star as an artist whose place in Nigerian music cannot easily be replicated.

Asake’s remark, “Like nobody will ever be Wiz,” has resurfaced in the ongoing conversation about Wizkid’s influence and legacy in Afrobeats.

The statement reflects the admiration Asake has previously expressed for Wizkid. In 2024, Asake described Wizkid as one of his major musical inspirations and spoke about his excitement at finally collaborating with him on “MMS,” a track from his Lungu Boy album.

The two artistes have since strengthened their musical relationship. Wizkid and Asake later released the collaborative project Real Vol. 1, continuing a partnership that had already attracted considerable attention from Afrobeats fans.

Their collaboration has also produced major streaming numbers. In January 2026, their song “Jogodo” generated significant attention on Spotify Nigeria, with reports placing it among the platform's biggest-performing songs in the country at the time.

Asake’s latest remark adds to a pattern of public admiration for Wizkid, particularly among a newer generation of Nigerian artistes who grew up watching the singer's career develop from his early days into international stardom.

Rather than simply describing Wizkid as successful, Asake's statement suggests that he views the singer's particular identity and impact as difficult to reproduce.

Wizkid has remained one of the most influential figures in the global expansion of Nigerian popular music, while Asake has emerged as one of the leading artistes of a younger generation.

The comment has therefore reignited discussion among fans about Wizkid's place in Afrobeats history and the influence he has had on artistes who came after him.

For Asake, however, the message appears simple: there may be many successful artistes, but in his view, there will only ever be one Wizkid.
