‘Nigerians Should Be Patient With Tinubu, He’s Doing Great’ — Hanks Anuku

Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has reportedly urged Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the country’s current difficulties did not begin with the present government.

The actor was quoted as saying Nigerians were “too much in a hurry” and should give the administration time to implement its policies.

“Nigerians should be patient with Tinubu cos he’s doing great, we’re too much in a hurry.”

The statement has circulated on social media amid an ongoing national debate over the impact of Tinubu’s economic reforms and the hardship experienced by many Nigerians.

Anuku reportedly argued that Tinubu inherited existing problems and should not be held solely responsible for the country's longstanding challenges.

“The country was not spoilt by him, there were people before him, why don’t they go and attack those people?” he was quoted as saying.

The actor's comments reflect an argument frequently made by supporters of the administration: that problems such as inflation, unemployment, insecurity and weak infrastructure predated Tinubu's presidency and cannot be attributed entirely to policies introduced since May 2023.

Anuku also reportedly used the popular expression, “The devil we know is better than the angel we don’t,” in defending the current administration.

The statement suggests a preference for allowing the incumbent government to continue implementing its policies rather than replacing it based on dissatisfaction with current conditions.

However, the quote is an attributed political opinion and does not constitute an independent assessment of the performance of the Tinubu administration.

President Tinubu's administration has consistently argued that its economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign-exchange system, were necessary to address structural weaknesses in the Nigerian economy.

The President has acknowledged that the reforms have caused hardship while maintaining that the economy is gradually moving toward greater stability and prosperity.

In a July 2026 address, Tinubu said Nigeria was making progress in improving living standards and building a more prosperous future, while also acknowledging the challenges facing citizens.

The latest reported comments are not the first time Anuku has publicly commented on Nigeria's political situation.

In July 2026, following public concern generated by a viral video involving him in Abuja, Anuku told Nigerians to focus on the government and the country's wider problems rather than speculate about his personal situation.

“Y’all haven’t seen anything yet. Y’all should face your government and leave me the hell alone,” he said in a video circulated at the time.

His latest reported remarks therefore place him once again in the middle of a public conversation about the direction of the country.

Anuku's reported defence of Tinubu is likely to generate reactions from both supporters and critics of the administration, particularly as Nigerians continue to debate whether the government's reforms are producing sufficient benefits for ordinary citizens.

While supporters point to economic reforms and longer-term objectives, critics continue to raise concerns about the cost of living and the immediate impact of government policies.

For now, Anuku's reported position remains his personal political view, and the exact context in which the quoted remarks were made could not be independently confirmed from a reliable primary source.
