Akwa Okuko Spotted at APGA Gathering Weeks After Soludo Remitted His Jail Term

Controversial Anambra native doctor Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki, has been spotted at an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) political gathering in the state, weeks after his release from the correctional centre.

A video circulating on social media showed Nwangwu among attendees at the political gathering, drawing reactions over his appearance at an event linked to the ruling party in Anambra State.

Nwangwu was released in September after Governor Chukwuma Soludo exercised his constitutional prerogative of mercy to remit the remaining portion of his prison sentence.

Nwangwu had been sentenced by an Anambra State High Court after pleading guilty in a case connected to money rituals and related practices. Reports said he had about 11 months remaining on his sentence when the governor intervened.

The state's Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Tobechukwu Nweke, later clarified that the governor's action was technically a remission of the unserved portion of the sentence, rather than a pardon.

Nweke said the decision was influenced by Nwangwu's plea bargain, expression of remorse and the relatively short period remaining on his sentence.

Youth Reformation Role

As part of the arrangement surrounding his release, Nwangwu was also expected to participate in the state's youth reformation and reorientation campaign.

The Anambra Government said the role was intended to allow him to contribute to efforts aimed at discouraging young people from practices associated with quick wealth and related criminality.

His appearance at the APGA gathering has since generated reactions online, with some social media users questioning his presence at a political event so soon after his release.

Some commentators speculated about whether his involvement could have political implications, while others focused on his reported new role in youth reformation.

However, there is no established evidence that Nwangwu's release was politically motivated or that his appearance at the gathering represents a formal political role.

The development comes as APGA continues its political activities in Anambra ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party has remained a major political force in the state, while Governor Soludo has also been involved in discussions surrounding the party's political direction ahead of the next presidential election.

Nwangwu's appearance at the gathering therefore attracted attention largely because of his recent release and his public profile, rather than any confirmed announcement that he has joined APGA or taken up a formal party position.
