National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko, has marked his birthday in Sokoto State, using the occasion to reaffirm his commitment to what he described as the struggle for a better Nigeria.
Tanko, who shared the message on X on September 28, said his birthday was not only a personal milestone but also an opportunity to reflect on his continued involvement in efforts aimed at changing the country.
“Another 28th of September in my life—a special birthday, but also a reminder of our commitment to the struggle to make Nigeria a better country,” Tanko wrote.
He added that he was in the ancient city of Sokoto, where he said activities were underway to build momentum for what he described as a “New Nigeria.”
“Today, we are in the ancient city of Sokoto, building the momentum for a New Nigeria that is POssible and OK,” he said.
Tanko’s reference to “POssible and OK” appears to echo the political mobilisation around Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The birthday message comes amid ongoing efforts by the Obi-Kwankwaso political camp to strengthen its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.
Tanko has recently urged supporters to remain focused on the broader political objective rather than allow disagreements over campaign structures to distract the movement.
In a recent interview, he said the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was the political platform on which Peter Obi was contesting and called on support groups to concentrate on legitimate activities that could support the party and its candidates.
His comments came amid a disagreement between the NDC and some support groups, particularly the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, over the registration and coordination of support organisations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The NDC has said registration of support groups is free and should be handled through its national Directorate of Support Groups, while the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement has insisted that it remains an independent organisation with its own leadership and grassroots structures.
Tanko's decision to mark his birthday in Sokoto also places the occasion within the wider political mobilisation taking place across northern Nigeria.
His post did not provide details of the specific meetings or activities he was attending in Sokoto, but he described the visit as part of efforts to build momentum for the “New Nigeria” project.
The political activities come as parties and support groups intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Tanko has remained a prominent figure in the Obidient movement since serving as spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election and later becoming national coordinator of the movement.
For Tanko, however, his latest birthday message focused less on the personal milestone and more on his continued political activism.
He described the occasion as another reminder of the commitment to making Nigeria better, while reaffirming the message of a “New Nigeria” from Sokoto.
