In a post published on September 23, Proper9ja Boy recalled a heated exchange between the two music stars on X and drew attention to a statement attributed to Wizkid, in which he questioned Davido’s financial standing in the music industry.
The post asked whether the likes of Asake, Rema, Seyi Vibez, Ayra Starr and Tems could potentially be earning more from music than Davido.
“Could it be that the likes of Asake, Rema, Seyi Vibez, Ayra Starr, and Tems makes more money than Davido in music?” Proper9ja Boy wrote.
He further questioned whether Davido’s highly publicised displays of luxury cars and jewellery could be connected to his family wealth, ending with a disclaimer that he was only trying to understand the weight of Wizkid’s earlier assertion.
The debate touches on a long-running rivalry between Wizkid and Davido, two of Nigeria’s most prominent Afrobeats stars. Their exchanges on social media have repeatedly generated discussions about music, commercial success, wealth and influence.
In October 2024, Wizkid made a series of posts targeting Davido during another flare-up of their rivalry. Channels Television reported that Wizkid claimed Davido did not make more money than “anybody in Nigeria in music” while also making other comments about his wealth and musical standing.
However, there is no reliable public data establishing that Asake, Rema, Seyi Vibez, Ayra Starr or Tems currently earn more from music than Davido. Music-industry income is also derived from several sources, including streaming, concerts, publishing, endorsements, royalties and other commercial arrangements, making direct comparisons difficult without access to audited financial records.
The Nigerian music industry as a whole has recorded strong growth. Spotify reported that Nigerian artistes generated more than ₦60 billion in streaming revenue on its platform in 2025, with revenues increasing by more than 140 per cent over two years.
Davido himself recently discussed the scale of money involved in international music performances. In an August 2026 interview with The FADER, he said artists could sometimes be offered between $700,000 and $800,000 for performances, although he explained that he had occasionally turned down such offers to spend time with his family.
The renewed conversation therefore remains largely a matter of speculation and fan debate, rather than a verified comparison of the artistes’ individual earnings.
For now, Proper9ja Boy’s post has reopened an old question surrounding one of Afrobeats’ most enduring rivalries: how much do Nigeria’s biggest music stars actually make, and who is earning the most from the industry?
