Social media commentator FS Yusuff has expressed disappointment with Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, following the minister’s reported prediction that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win Kaduna State in the 2027 elections.
Yusuff reacted to a report by Nigeria Stories quoting Musa as saying, “APC will win in Kaduna.”
In a post on X, Yusuff wrote: “Let me go and delete the tweets where I was celebrating his appointment. A total disappointment!”
Yusuff’s comment suggests that his earlier support for Musa’s appointment as Defence Minister was influenced by expectations about the retired general’s role as a security professional.
His latest reaction reflects concerns over the perceived political implications of a serving Defence Minister publicly expressing confidence in the electoral fortunes of a political party.
Musa, a retired general and former Chief of Defence Staff, was appointed Minister of Defence in December 2025 after his confirmation by the Senate.
The minister’s reported statement comes as political mobilisation for the 2027 elections gathers momentum in Kaduna.
A political support group, CGMUSAWAH for PBAT 2027, announced on September 4 that it plans to mobilise one million women across Kaduna in support of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Uba Sani and the APC.
The group said it had established mobilisation structures across local government areas, wards and polling units as part of its preparations for the election.
Musa's reported comment has also raised questions about the role of a serving Defence Minister during an election season.
While political parties and supporters routinely make predictions about electoral outcomes, critics may question whether a senior official responsible for national defence should publicly align himself with the expected victory of a political party.
The debate is particularly sensitive because security agencies are expected to maintain professionalism and neutrality during elections.
Kaduna is expected to remain one of the closely watched states ahead of the 2027 elections, given its political importance and history of competitive contests.
Musa's statement has therefore become another talking point in the emerging 2027 political debate, with supporters of the APC interpreting confidence in the party's grassroots strength differently from critics who see the remarks as inappropriate for a serving security-sector minister.
For Yusuff, however, the statement was enough to prompt him to publicly reconsider his earlier praise for Musa's appointment.
The 2027 election will ultimately be decided by voters, while the credibility of the process will depend on the neutrality and professionalism of the institutions responsible for protecting it.
