Tinubu Congratulates APC as Party Wins Four of Five Bye-Election Seats

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the legislative bye-elections conducted across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) won four of the five seats contested in the September 19, 2026 bye-elections, while the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured one seat in Bauchi State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published results from the five bye-election contests on its results platform.

The APC winners are Kallamu MaiJama’a, who won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in Gombe State; Husseini Datti, who won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat in Kano; Okolosi Ator, who emerged winner in Udu State Constituency, Delta; and Yakubu Ali, who won the Disina State Constituency seat in Bauchi.

Adamu Yakubu of the APM won the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi State.

Reacting to the outcome, Tinubu said the victories recorded by APC candidates demonstrated what he described as continued confidence in the party and its administration.

“I am encouraged by the support Nigerians at the grassroots continue to show for our party and for the difficult but necessary reforms our administration has implemented over the past three years,” the President said.

He urged Nigerians to remain committed to the government's reform programme, saying the benefits would become increasingly evident as the administration enters what he described as the next phase of its programme.

Tinubu also congratulated the newly elected lawmakers and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by their constituents through effective representation.

He called on candidates who lost the elections to accept the results in good faith and continue participating in the democratic process.

The President commended voters and security agencies for maintaining peace during the elections.

He also praised INEC for conducting the bye-elections and urged the electoral commission to build on the progress recorded while addressing shortcomings ahead of future elections.

INEC's official results portal shows the five contests as the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Dawakin Kudu State Constituency, Disina State Constituency, Sakwa State Constituency and Udu State Constituency bye-elections, all held on September 19, 2026.

The bye-elections come as political parties prepare for the 2027 general elections. INEC's current election information lists January 16, 2027 for the presidential and National Assembly elections and February 6, 2027 for governorship and State House of Assembly elections.

While the APC's four victories provide a recent snapshot of the party's performance in the five affected constituencies, the results cover only those specific legislative seats and do not by themselves determine the outcome of the wider 2027 elections.
