Suleman Praises Otti, Says Abia Governor Has Shown Good Governance Is Possible

Apostle Johnson Suleman, General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, has praised Abia State Governor Alex Otti, describing his administration as evidence that good governance is possible in Nigeria.

Suleman made the remarks during a sermon on Sunday, where he highlighted what he described as the impact of Otti's administration in Abia State.

According to reports quoting the cleric, Suleman said Otti could secure a second term without extensive campaigning if his current performance continues.

“Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, is proof that good governance is possible. He can easily win a second term without much campaigning. Look at what the man is doing in Abia State,” Suleman said.

He added that politicians who fail to make an impact while in office may be doing so by deliberate choice.

The comments amount to Suleman's personal assessment of Otti's administration and should not be taken as an indication of the governor's electoral prospects.

Otti's record draws endorsements

Otti, who was elected governor of Abia State in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, is currently serving his first term.

The governor's administration has highlighted projects and reforms in areas including road infrastructure, healthcare, education, transportation, agriculture, security and public-service reform. The Abia State Government said in May that its administration had recorded progress across those sectors since taking office in 2023.

Otti has also received endorsements from various groups ahead of the 2027 election. In June, a non-partisan group of professionals and stakeholders from Abia North endorsed him for a second term, citing what it described as visible performance across sectors.

Traditional rulers in Abia had also endorsed Otti for a second term earlier in 2026, according to The Punch.

Otti himself has spoken about the 2027 election, saying in May that his administration remained focused on completing its mandate rather than allowing the election to distract from governance.

More recently, the governor said leadership succession in Abia should ultimately be based on merit rather than godfatherism, as he discussed the political future of the state beyond his tenure.

Suleman's latest remarks therefore add another public assessment of Otti's administration as political discussions surrounding the 2027 Abia governorship election continue.
