Mrs Tinubu made the remarks during her official visit to Owerri, the Imo State capital, where she engaged with women and participated in an empowerment programme.
“Make una pray for Mr President abeg, but we go work for una and Nigeria will be better because I want to enjoy Nigeria in old age. I'm working for my old age; that's why we are doing all we are doing right now,” she said.
The First Lady's comments combined a request for prayers with an assurance that the administration would continue implementing programmes aimed at improving the welfare and economic circumstances of Nigerians.
She also appealed for continued support for her husband's administration ahead of the 2027 presidential election, according to reports on her Imo visit.
The visit included an empowerment programme targeting women across the country. According to reports, the initiative is expected to benefit 18,500 women nationwide, with beneficiaries receiving various items to support their businesses.
In Imo State, Governor Hope Uzodimma reportedly provided additional empowerment items for 2,000 women, taking the total number of beneficiaries in the state to 2,500.
Following the governor's intervention, Mrs Tinubu announced an additional ₦100,000 cash support for each beneficiary of the programme in the state.
She urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the assistance, describing the initiative as part of the administration's broader efforts to promote women's economic empowerment and sustainable development.
Mrs Tinubu's comments come as the 2027 political season gradually gathers momentum, with President Tinubu and political parties beginning to intensify mobilisation ahead of the next presidential election.
The First Lady's appeal to Catholic mothers also reflects the administration's continued engagement with religious and community groups as it seeks public support for its policies and the President's re-election bid.
