Political commentator Shehu Gazali Sadiq has stirred reactions on social media after declaring NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi “the GOAT,” insisting that his earlier comparison of Obi with President Bola Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar was misunderstood.
In a post on X dated September 15, Sadiq wrote: “I told Nigerians that Peter Obi is greater than Tinubu and Atiku combined, but many people don't know what I mean.”
He added that developments on political X since the previous day should help people with “a discerning mind” understand his position, concluding: “Peter Obi is the GOAT.”
The post has added to ongoing political discussions surrounding Obi, Tinubu and Atiku as political conversations intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
Sadiq’s statement is an expression of personal political opinion. His use of “GOAT” commonly meaning “Greatest of All Time”does not constitute an objective or measurable assessment of the three politicians.
The wider debate comes amid continuing efforts by opposition figures to explore cooperation ahead of 2027, alongside disagreements over leadership, party platforms and the selection of a common candidate.
Obi, who finished third in the 2023 presidential election, remains a prominent figure in discussions about the opposition’s political direction. Tinubu, the incumbent president, and Atiku, who finished second in 2023, also remain central to national political debate.
Sadiq’s post has therefore become part of a broader online conversation about political influence, public perception and the significance of Obi’s role in Nigeria’s opposition politics.
