Tinubu gave the assurance in a message delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session at the National Mosque in Abuja to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
According to the President, Nigerians should not lose hope despite the difficulties confronting the country, insisting that the sacrifices made over the years would eventually produce a better Nigeria.
“I want to categorically make it clear that Nigeria is on the right path. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria has finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again,” Tinubu was quoted as saying.
The President acknowledged the challenges Nigeria has faced since independence, while describing the country as a mature nation that should build on the lessons of its 66-year journey.
Abbas, who represented Tinubu at the event, also urged Nigerians not to lose hope, saying peace and development would return to the country.
“Peace is coming back to this country, development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” the Speaker said.
The President's message comes amid continuing economic pressures facing households across the country.
Recent increases in petrol prices have added to cost-of-living concerns, with Reuters reporting that petrol prices had reached about ₦1,400 per litre in Lagos and Abuja and as high as ₦1,500 in parts of northern Nigeria in September. The report also noted that inflation eased slightly to 15.39 per cent in August, while food inflation remained at 19.57 per cent.
