A dramatic incident occurred aboard a bus travelling from Ibadan to Lagos after a male passenger reportedly suffered a heart attack during the journey.
According to accounts of the incident, the man suddenly became critically ill while the bus was on the road, leaving fellow passengers alarmed and unsure of what to do.
In a remarkable act of quick thinking, a good Samaritan among those present reportedly intervened and began administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the unconscious passenger.
The intervention helped keep the man alive while arrangements were made to get him medical attention.
CPR is an emergency procedure used when a person is unresponsive and not breathing normally. It involves chest compressions to help maintain blood flow to vital organs until professional medical assistance arrives.
The incident has once again highlighted the importance of basic first-aid and CPR knowledge, particularly in public places and during long-distance journeys where access to emergency medical services may be delayed.
Passengers who witness a medical emergency are encouraged to seek professional help immediately and, where they have appropriate training, provide emergency assistance while waiting for medical personnel.
The identity and current condition of the passenger were not immediately disclosed.
The incident also serves as a reminder that knowing CPR can make the difference between life and death during a cardiac emergency, particularly when immediate medical assistance is unavailable.
