‘If He Says He’ll Change Nigeria in 4 Years, He’ll Do It’ — Supporter Backs Makinde’s 2027 Reset Agenda

A supporter of Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has expressed confidence in his ability to transform Nigeria within four years if elected president in 2027.

The supporter made the remarks while reacting to Makinde’s recent declaration that his proposed “Reset Nigeria” agenda could be implemented within a single four-year presidential term.

Makinde, speaking at the APM North-Central Town Hall Meeting in Lafia, Nasarawa State, said Nigeria could be reset within four years if he assumes office on May 29, 2027.

He said his proposed agenda would focus on establishing a new security architecture, reforming education, rebuilding the economy through data, science and logic, and addressing Nigeria’s socio-political challenges.

“The reset agenda can be concluded in four years,” Makinde said.

He also said his administration would operate a transitional government of national unity, which he said would culminate in “new players and an agenda for Nigeria’s sustainable development.”

Reacting to the declaration, the supporter argued that Nigerians had already seen what Makinde had achieved during his tenure as governor of Oyo State.

“If he says he’ll change Nigeria in 4 years, he will fucking do it. We’ve all seen what this man did in Oyo State in 4 years and what he’s using the remaining 4 years to do,” the supporter said.

The supporter also expressed a personal hope that Nigerians would not “miss this opportunity” when the 2027 election arrives.

The statement represents the supporter’s political opinion and endorsement of Makinde's candidacy and does not establish that the governor would achieve the proposed national transformation.

At the Lafia meeting, Makinde presented security, education, economic management and the socio-political environment as key areas of his proposed national reset.

He also questioned the Federal Government’s handling of insecurity and the planning and funding behind the establishment of additional Army divisions.

On the economy, Makinde said increased allocations to state governments had not necessarily translated into reduced hunger among Nigerians. He also discussed Oyo State’s dependence on federal allocations, saying it had fallen from more than 80 per cent when he assumed office in 2019 to about 65 per cent by 2022, before rising again.

Makinde’s 2027 campaign is being built around what he calls the “Reset Nigeria” agenda, with the governor presenting his record in Oyo State as part of the argument for his proposed approach at the federal level.

As political parties and presidential aspirants intensify their engagements ahead of the 2027 elections, Makinde’s four-year reset promise is likely to remain a central part of the APM’s campaign message.
