A social media user identified as DavidoHeir has sparked reactions online after questioning the apparent absence of Nigerians posting unboxing videos of Apple’s latest iPhone 18 series.
In a post on X on September 19, the user wrote: “Haven’t seen any Nigerian unboxing the iPhone 18 yet, why na? This year tough.”
The comment came shortly after Apple officially released the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, with the devices becoming available in several markets from September 18.
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup was unveiled on September 9, with pre-orders opening on September 12 and sales commencing September 18 in more than 65 countries and regions.
The company said the new Pro models feature an upgraded camera system with variable aperture, the A20 Pro chip, improved battery performance and other hardware and software upgrades.
Apple also confirmed that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would become available in additional markets from September 25.
DavidoHeir’s comment appeared to point to the economic realities facing consumers, suggesting that the absence of Nigerian unboxing videos could be linked to the cost of acquiring the latest flagship device.
The post has since provided social media users with an opportunity to discuss the affordability of newly released premium smartphones in Nigeria, particularly as consumers weigh the cost of upgrading from previous iPhone models.
The post did not provide figures for the number of Nigerians who had purchased the device, and no independent data was cited to establish how widely the iPhone 18 has been adopted in Nigeria.
With Apple’s latest models now entering global markets, Nigerians are expected to begin sharing more reviews, unboxing videos and price information as the devices become available locally.
