Enugu LG Poll: Man Raises Alarm Over Alleged Missing Original Result Sheet

A party agent has raised concerns over the alleged absence of an original result sheet at a polling unit as the Enugu State local government elections got underway on Saturday.

In a video circulating on social media, the man, identified as a member of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), questioned the conduct of the election after observing that the original result sheet was allegedly not available while voting was about to commence.

“yesterday being the Enugu State Local Government election, the original result sheet is not here, yet the election is already kicking off.”

The video showed the agent wearing an accreditation badge while speaking at the polling location about the electoral materials available at the unit.

The man did not provide further details in the footage about why the result sheet was allegedly unavailable or identify anyone responsible for its absence.

The claim could not be independently verified from the video alone, and there was no immediate statement from the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) specifically addressing the allegation.

The Enugu State local government election was conducted across the state's 17 local government areas, with voters electing chairmen and councillors. Reports from the exercise indicated that some polling units also experienced delays in the arrival of electoral materials, while voter turnout was relatively low in several locations.

The issue of original result sheets has previously featured in disputes over elections in Enugu. During a 2024 rerun election, INEC suspended voting in eight polling units in Enugu South 1 after stating that original result sheets were not available for inspection before voting commenced.

Under Nigeria's Electoral Act 2026, original disputed polling-unit results are among the materials that can be used by collation or returning officers to determine the correctness of a result during a dispute. The law also provides for comparison with accreditation data and results transmitted from polling units.

As voting and counting progressed in Saturday's election, attention remained on the handling of electoral materials, counting and the eventual collation and declaration of results by ENSIEC.

The allegation over the result sheet therefore remains a matter requiring clarification from the relevant electoral authorities, particularly on whether the document was subsequently supplied and whether the situation affected voting at the polling unit concerned.
