Drake Names Tems Collaboration ‘Wait for U’ as His Best With Nigerian Artist

Canadian music superstar Drake has reportedly named **“Wait for U,” his collaboration with Nigerian singer Tems and American rapper Future, as his best collaboration with a Nigerian artist.

Drake was reportedly asked by a Nigerian fan during an Instagram Live session to identify his favourite collaboration with a Nigerian musician, having previously worked with global Afrobeats stars including Wizkid and Tems.

Responding to the question, Drake reportedly singled out Tems’ contribution to “Wait for U” as his preferred collaboration.

“My best collaboration with a Nigerian artist is ‘Wait for U.’ Tems is incredibly talented,” he was quoted as saying.

The song, released in 2022 as part of Future’s album I Never Liked You, features Drake and Tems. It also samples Tems’ earlier song “Higher” from her 2020 EP For Broken Ears.

“Wait for U” became a major global success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The achievement made Tems the first African female artist to debut at the top of the chart.

Drake also reportedly acknowledged his highly successful collaboration with Wizkid, “One Dance,” which became one of the biggest records of his career.

“One Dance with Wizkid was also a huge record. But if I’m being real, ‘Wait for U’ is probably my best record with a Nigerian artist,” he reportedly said.

The rapper was also quoted as expressing interest in working with more Nigerian artistes, reportedly mentioning Davido, Rema and Ayra Starr among artists he would like to collaborate with.

Drake’s history with Nigerian music stars has been significant in the global rise of Afrobeats. His collaboration with Wizkid and Kyla on “One Dance” became a worldwide hit, while his work with Tems on “Wait for U” further connected Nigerian music with the international hip-hop audience.

“Wait for U” has continued to achieve major milestones. In 2026, reports said the song had surpassed 10 million US units, making it one of the most commercially successful collaborations involving a Nigerian female artiste.

Tems also won the Best Collaboration award at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards for her contribution to “Wait for U,” further cementing the song’s impact.

If the reported comments are confirmed, Drake’s latest praise could further fuel anticipation among Nigerian music fans for potential collaborations with Davido, Rema, Ayra Starr and other leading Afrobeats artistes.
