Dangote himself has argued that many wealthy African entrepreneurs have the resources to establish major industries but are reluctant to take the risks involved.
He said some entrepreneurs are unwilling to sacrifice their private lives, health and comfort to deal with the challenges that come with building large businesses in Nigeria.
The Dangote Refinery IPO has therefore generated a broader debate about private investment, government policy, industrialisation and whether Nigeria has enough large-scale competitors in strategic sectors.
It is reported that Dangote Refinery is already operating at full capacity and has become an important supplier of refined petroleum products, while the company plans to expand capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day.
