A fresh social media conversation about the relationship between Nigerian music stars Asake and Rema has sparked questions over what may have caused an alleged rift between the two artistes.
The conversation began after an X user, Benny, asked on September 23: “Asake and Rema used to be cool. What caused the beef?”
The question comes days after singer BNXN reportedly disclosed that Asake turned down an appearance on an upcoming project after learning that Rema would also feature on the project.
According to reports of BNXN’s Instagram Live session, the singer said he had initially secured Asake’s interest after asking him to appear on the project. However, he claimed Asake later changed his mind after Rema’s involvement was mentioned.
BNXN reportedly said he had previously believed any tension between Asake and Rema was largely a matter of rivalry between their respective fan bases, rather than a personal disagreement between the two artistes.
The disclosure has since fuelled renewed speculation among music fans about the relationship between the two stars.
However, neither Asake nor Rema has publicly confirmed a specific incident as the cause of any falling-out. As a result, claims about what exactly happened between them remain largely speculative.
The discussion is also notable because Asake and Rema belong to the same generation of Nigerian artistes who have achieved significant international success, making any perceived rivalry between them a frequent subject of fan discussions.
For now, the reported BNXN episode has added another layer to the conversation, but it does not by itself establish the reason for an alleged feud.
The renewed question from Benny has therefore left fans asking: Was there a genuine disagreement between Asake and Rema, or has competition and fan rivalry created the impression of a beef between the two stars?
