Tension has reportedly followed an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Kano State, after a group of youths were seen pulling down and burning posters and billboards bearing the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The incident was brought to public attention through a social-media post by X user Abdullahi, @abdullahiisha25, who claimed that the youths expressed growing frustration with the Tinubu administration.
According to the post, the youths were seen destroying Tinubu-branded campaign materials shortly after the APC rally.
“After the APC campaign rally in Kano angry youths were seen pulling down Tinubu billboards and posters and burning them as their frustrations against Tinubu get stronger by the day,” the post stated.
The social-media post also included the slogan “Tinubu must go”, repeated several times.
Footage circulating online appears to show individuals pulling down campaign materials associated with Tinubu. However, the circumstances surrounding the footage, including the exact location and whether the incident occurred immediately after the latest APC rally, could not be independently established from the social-media post alone.
A similar incident was reported in Kano in June 2025, when youths were captured tearing down a Tinubu campaign billboard. Contemporary reporting said the motive was not immediately known, although the incident was linked by some observers to public concerns over economic hardship and insecurity.
The latest claims have consequently generated renewed debate over the level of public support for Tinubu as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
Kano is one of Nigeria's most politically influential states and has historically played a major role in determining presidential election outcomes.
The state also has a strong opposition political structure. In the 2023 governorship election, the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) candidate, Abba Kabir Yusuf, defeated the APC candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, according to the declared results.
Against this political background, any public display of opposition to Tinubu's re-election campaign in Kano is likely to attract considerable attention.
The reported protest comes amid continuing public debate over the impact of the Federal Government's economic reforms, including fuel-subsidy removal and naira reforms.
Nigeria's cost-of-living crisis has previously triggered large-scale protests, including the 2024 #EndBadGovernance demonstrations, with Kano among the states where protests took place.
Supporters of the Tinubu administration, however, have maintained that the reforms are intended to stabilise the economy and create the conditions for long-term growth, while critics argue that the immediate burden on households remains too high.
As of the time of this report, there was no verified statement from the APC or the Presidency specifically confirming the alleged post-rally destruction of Tinubu campaign materials described in the social-media post.
The reported incident therefore remains a claim based on circulating footage and social-media accounts, rather than an independently established fact.
