Senator Aisha Dahiru Ahmed Binani has emerged as a prominent figure in the campaign for the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Adamawa State, with supporters declaring their backing for her political efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was highlighted in a message circulating among supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, declaring: “Aisha Binami is leading the campaign of Obi-Kwankwaso ticket in Adamawa State. We are solidly behind her.”
Binani, a former senator and former APC governorship candidate in Adamawa, joined the NDC in May 2026 after leaving the African Democratic Congress. She subsequently emerged as the NDC governorship candidate in the state.
Her involvement has given the NDC an established political figure in Adamawa as the party builds its structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a recent video circulating online, Binani publicly referred to Peter Obi as her president and Rabiu Kwankwaso as her vice-president while calling for support for NDC candidates across the political ladder.
“This is my President, and this is my Vice President. This is NDC family. From the President down to the House of Assembly, it is NDC all through,” she was quoted as saying.
Her comments reinforce her public support for the NDC presidential ticket as the party prepares for the 2027 election.
The NDC was formally registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in February 2026, while Obi and Kwankwaso subsequently joined the party after leaving the ADC.
Binani has remained an influential political figure in Adamawa since her emergence as the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 election.
That election became controversial after the then Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Ari, announced Binani as winner while the collation process was still ongoing. INEC headquarters subsequently invalidated the declaration and later declared Ahmadu Fintiri the winner. Fintiri's victory was subsequently upheld by the Supreme Court.
Her decision to join the NDC has now placed her on the same political platform as Obi and Kwankwaso, with the party positioning itself as an opposition platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reports on the emerging political structure in Adamawa have identified Binani as one of the key figures being watched as the state's political parties organise for the next election cycle.
For supporters of the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, Binani's role in Adamawa represents part of the NDC's effort to build a state-level political structure around its presidential campaign.
The extent to which the emerging structure translates into electoral support will ultimately be determined by voters at the polls.
