₦9.3bn Road Budget: Oluyole Residents Question Condition of Road Leading to Chairman’s House

Questions have been raised over the condition of a road leading to the residence of the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, Akeem Olatunji, despite a ₦9.34 billion provision for road construction in the council’s 2025 proposed budget.

A video circulating on social media shows a badly deteriorated road said to lead to the council chairman’s residence, with residents and motorists reportedly struggling to navigate the route.

The post, which has generated reactions online, also questioned the contrast between the condition of the road and the council’s allocation for road construction.

The official 2025 Oluyole Local Government budget document published by the Oyo State Government lists ₦9,343,050,000 under “Construction/Provision of Roads” for Oluyole Local Government-wide projects. The same document also provides ₦250.5 million for road rehabilitation and repairs at Odo-Ona Nla.

The condition of the road is not entirely new to the council chairman.

In July 2026, Olatunji addressed concerns over the condition of the Sanyo Road, which Independent Newspaper reported as the road leading to his private residence.

At the time, the chairman said the road had been captured in the council’s rehabilitation plans and would be repaired after the necessary preliminary work by the technical departments.

He also explained that although he and his family would benefit from the rehabilitation, his administration had prioritised other locations it considered to have more urgent infrastructure needs.

Olatunji said public interest remained the priority and that available resources were being directed first to areas facing more critical infrastructure challenges.

In the latest social-media post, an unidentified commercial motorcyclist was quoted as claiming that the chairman no longer uses the road because of its condition.

The claim could not be independently verified, and the identity of the rider was not established in the material reviewed.

The post also mocked the situation with the phrase “IKOLABA President and doings,” while questioning the relationship between the council's budgetary provision for roads and the condition of roads within the local government.

The council has previously maintained that road development remains part of its infrastructure programme.

In February 2026, during the inauguration of the Grievance Redress Committee for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Olatunji assured stakeholders that his administration would continue to work toward development across Oluyole.

The council was also identified as one of the beneficiaries of planned rural-road construction under the project.

The latest controversy therefore raises a broader question about how quickly budgeted road funds are translated into completed projects and whether residents can see corresponding improvements on roads within the local government.

While the ₦9.343 billion figure is confirmed in the official 2025 budget document, the budget provision alone does not establish that the entire amount was spent or that all roads captured under the allocation were expected to be completed within the same period.

The condition of the road leading to the chairman’s residence, as shown in the circulating video, is therefore likely to fuel further calls for transparency on road-project execution and expenditure in Oluyole Local Government.
