2027: ‘Tinubu Doesn’t Know What He’s Facing’ — Obi’s Presence at Makinde’s APM Campaign Office Sparks Reactions

 The 2027 presidential race has taken another dramatic turn following the appearance of former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi at the unveiling of the presidential campaign headquarters of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Obi was present on Monday at the official commissioning of the Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Headquarters of the APM in Abuja, an appearance that has generated fresh reactions over the shape of the opposition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The development comes amid months of political realignments and discussions around the possibility of opposition figures working together to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reacting to Obi’s presence at the event, a political commentator described the development as evidence that the 2027 contest could take a different form from previous elections.

“When I told you people some months back that you will see a different approach to the 2027 election, you think I was joking abi?” the commentator said.

The reaction suggested that Obi’s attendance at Makinde’s campaign office inauguration could be part of broader political manoeuvring ahead of the election.

The commentator also directed a warning at President Tinubu, declaring that the President may be facing a significantly different political challenge in 2027.

“Tinubu doesn’t know what he’s facing in 2027,” the statement said.

The commentator further expressed optimism that more unexpected political developments could emerge before the election, adding: “More shocking events ahead.”

The remarks, however, represent political commentary and should not be interpreted as confirmation of any formal alliance between Obi and Makinde.

The appearance is nevertheless significant because Obi and Makinde have previously been involved in discussions around opposition cooperation ahead of 2027.

In April 2026, Makinde hosted Obi and South-East leaders in Oyo State during consultations linked to efforts to build a political coalition ahead of the general election. Makinde subsequently declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the APM amid continuing political realignments.

Makinde and Obi are both prominent opposition figures seeking to challenge the incumbent administration, although they are currently associated with different political platforms.
