2027: Social Media User Accuses Soludo of Targeting Obi Over Alleged CBN Misconduct

A social media user identified as “Trigger Boss” has accused Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo of opposing Peter Obi’s presidential ambition because of alleged concerns over his record as former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In a post on X dated September 19, the user alleged that Soludo was using the issue of a “mandate” as a political position while seeking to protect himself from possible scrutiny.

“Soludo is standing on ‘your mandate’. He is actually fighting to cover the money he embezzled as CBN GOVERNOR,” the post stated.

The user further alleged that Soludo was concerned that an Obi presidency could lead to the reopening of his records from his time at the CBN and claimed, without providing evidence, that imprisonment could eventually follow.

The allegations have not been substantiated by evidence in the post, and there is no established finding cited showing that Soludo embezzled public funds while serving as CBN governor.

Soludo served as CBN governor from 2004 to 2009 before becoming governor of Anambra State. The CBN's official record lists his tenure as May 29, 2004, to May 29, 2009.

The relationship between Soludo and Obi has become a subject of political discussion as the 2027 presidential election approaches.

Obi, the former Anambra governor, is seeking the presidency under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Soludo remains governor of Anambra State under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Their political differences have included disagreements over Obi's record as Anambra governor and his presidential ambitions.

In recent days, the Anambra State Government has also published financial records relating to Obi's tenure, including details of loans and other liabilities it says were incurred during his administration. Obi has rejected accusations of financial impropriety and challenged critics to identify evidence of misappropriation during his tenure.

The latest accusation against Soludo appears to be part of the increasingly heated political debate surrounding the 2027 election.
