Nigerian music stars Wande Coal and Davido are at the centre of a fresh online exchange after a disagreement over an unreleased collaboration resurfaced.
The issue began after Davido discussed the shelved song, “Come My Way,” during a recent interview with Uncut. Davido said Wande Coal initially contacted him to record a verse for the track, but the collaboration eventually fell apart over the proposed release strategy.
According to Davido, Wande wanted to release the original song first and subsequently put out Davido's contribution as a remix. Davido said he disagreed because he had recorded his verse as part of the main song rather than specifically for a remix. He nevertheless described his verse as exceptionally strong and said the collaboration would have been good.
Wande Coal, however, offered a very different account.
Responding on X on Tuesday, August 18, Wande questioned why Davido would expect to dictate the release strategy of a song that belonged to him.
“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song f**king did well without you on it bruv!!!”
The response immediately sparked debate among fans, with social media users divided over whether Wande's reaction was justified. Some argued that Davido had not actually insulted Wande during the interview, while others backed Wande's position that the song's release should ultimately have been controlled by its owner.
The two artists have collaborated previously. Their musical relationship dates back at least to 2012, when Davido featured alongside Wande Coal on Shank's “Throw Way.” They later appeared together on DJ Spinall's “Olowo.” In 2021, footage of Davido and Wande Coal working together in the studio also circulated online, generating excitement among fans about a possible joint record.
The latest exchange has therefore revived interest in their unreleased material, with fans once again questioning whether the long-shelved “Come My Way” collaboration could ever see an official release.
For now, neither artist has announced that the disputed record will be released, leaving the song's fate uncertain.
