Tinubu Begins Annual Vacation, begins Legal Battle Over U.S. Records

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.

The President's first destination is London, where he is expected to spend part of his break while remaining available for official state matters.

Supporters of the President say the vacation is well deserved following months of engagement with major national issues, including security, the economy and other critical matters affecting the country.

They noted that governance is expected to continue during the President's leave, with regular briefings expected from ministers, security chiefs and other government officials handling key national responsibilities.

The vacation also comes as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In another development, President Tinubu has reportedly taken legal action in the United States over efforts to release records relating to past investigations involving him.

The documents are being sought through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by U.S.-based activist Aaron Greenspan against several American government agencies.

The records reportedly include an FBI file, interview documents from the early 1990s and files connected to a 1993 civil forfeiture case involving approximately $460,000.

President Tinubu's legal representatives are reportedly seeking to prevent the release of the documents, arguing that disclosure could infringe upon his privacy rights.

Legal observers say the case could centre on how U.S. courts balance personal privacy rights against the public's right to access government records.
