A tense scene on the Auchi–Benin Expressway has drawn attention online after a truck driver reportedly captured video of police officers and soldiers stopping a Toyota Sienna allegedly travelling without a number plate.
According to posts accompanying the footage, the security personnel searched the vehicle at a checkpoint and allegedly discovered firearms inside. The occupants were reportedly disarmed as the security personnel took control of the situation.
The video, shared across social-media platforms, appears to show security personnel surrounding the Sienna as the incident unfolds. The footage has since generated reactions from road users and Nigerians online, particularly because of the security concerns associated with the busy Auchi–Benin route.
Reports circulating with the video say the Sienna was stopped partly because it was allegedly operating without a number plate. The subsequent search reportedly led to the discovery of firearms.
However, the identities of the occupants, the exact type and number of firearms allegedly recovered, and the circumstances under which the weapons were being transported have not been independently established from the available footage.
There has also been no verified public statement identified from the Edo State Police Command or the Nigerian Army confirming the circumstances of the incident.
The Auchi–Benin corridor has historically faced serious security challenges, including kidnapping and armed attacks. Previous reports have documented security operations along the route and the recovery of weapons from suspected criminals.
The latest incident has therefore attracted particular attention, with some road users praising the presence of security personnel while others are calling for more information about what happened to the occupants of the Sienna.
For now, the footage provides a glimpse of the tense encounter, but the allegations surrounding the firearms and the identities or intentions of those inside the vehicle remain subject to official confirmation.
Authorities are expected to provide further details if arrests were made and weapons were formally recovered.
