Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has reiterated his commitment to tackling Nigeria’s electricity and security challenges if elected president in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement circulating online, Sowore outlined what he described as urgent priorities for his potential administration, promising swift reforms in key sectors affecting Nigerians.
“If I am elected as President come 2027, I will start improving electricity supply from my first day in office, and we will resolve the insecurity problem immediately,” he said.
Sowore, founder of the African Action Congress (AAC), has consistently positioned himself as a vocal critic of successive Nigerian governments, often focusing on issues of governance, corruption, and public infrastructure deficits.
His latest remarks have generated reactions across social media, with supporters praising his confidence and bold promises, while critics questioned the feasibility of resolving long-standing structural issues within such a short timeframe.
Energy experts note that Nigeria’s electricity sector faces deep-rooted challenges, including inadequate generation capacity, transmission losses, and funding constraints, while security analysts point to the complexity of insurgency, banditry, and other violent crimes across different regions.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Federal Government or major political parties regarding Sowore’s latest statement.
