Osun APC Rejects Immediate Congratulatory Move as Campaign DG Questions Adeleke's Victory

Celebrations have continued across Osun State following Governor Ademola Adeleke's re-election, but within the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC), questions remain over the outcome of the governorship election.

While supporters of the governor have been singing and dancing in celebration of his victory, the APC's Director-General of the Osun State Governorship Campaign Council, Olawole Okey, says the party is not prepared to immediately congratulate Adeleke.

Speaking during an interview on PrimeTime, Okey said the APC would first conduct a comprehensive review of the election before deciding its next step.

According to him, the party believes there are unresolved questions surrounding the results and maintains that Adeleke may not have secured the highest number of valid votes.

“We are in no rush to congratulate Senator Ademola Adeleke,” Okey said, stressing that the party would review the entire electoral process before reaching a final decision.

The APC campaign leadership is reportedly reviewing the results across the state's polling units and wards.

The party is expected to examine the results from the 332 wards before its legal team determines whether there are sufficient grounds to challenge the election at the tribunal.

The position reflects the existence of differing views within the APC camp over how to respond to the outcome.

While some party members have indicated that the election should be accepted as part of the political process, others believe the results require further scrutiny.

The debate has also raised questions about political sportsmanship.

Governor Adeleke has called on political opponents and residents of Osun State to put the election behind them and work together for the development of the state.

Supporters of the governor argue that the priority should now be governance rather than prolonged political confrontation.

The governor has previously expressed his intention to transform Osun from a predominantly civil-service-dependent economy into a more industrialised and economically diversified state.

That vision, political observers say, could provide a rallying point for the government and opposition alike if the political temperature can be lowered after the election.

Adeleke's victory has also been linked to the strength of his political and family network in Osun State.

The Adeleke political family has maintained a significant presence in the state's politics for decades, with members of the family occupying prominent political positions.

Observers argue that the governor's grassroots connection, political structure and family network contributed to his ability to mobilise support during the election.

However, questions have also emerged over allegations that huge sums of money were deployed during the campaign.
