Oriyomi Hamzat Promises Phased Return of 24-Hour Electricity in Oyo State

Media personality and businessman Oriyomi Hamzat has promised to work towards restoring 24-hour electricity supply across Oyo State, saying the initiative would be implemented gradually in phases.

Hamzat, while speaking on the proposed electricity plan, said the objective would be to improve power supply across the state and create a more stable environment for residents, businesses and industries.

“We will bring 24 hours electricity back to Oyo State. But it will start in phases,” Hamzat said.

He explained that achieving uninterrupted electricity supply across the entire state would require a phased approach rather than an immediate statewide rollout.

The proposal is expected to focus on gradually expanding reliable power supply to different communities and areas until the target of 24-hour electricity is achieved.

Reliable electricity remains a major concern for households and businesses in Oyo State and across Nigeria, with poor power supply contributing to higher operating costs for businesses and increased dependence on generators.

Hamzat's pledge has therefore generated interest among residents, particularly entrepreneurs and small businesses that rely heavily on electricity for daily operations.

If implemented successfully, a phased 24-hour electricity programme could improve productivity, support local businesses, attract investment and reduce the cost of running businesses on alternative power sources.

The statement, however, leaves questions around the proposed funding model, generation capacity, distribution infrastructure, implementation timeline and the specific areas that would be included in the initial phase.

Further details on how the ambitious electricity plan would be financed and executed are expected to determine its feasibility and potential impact across Oyo State.
