Odogwu Asaba’s Wife Defends Husband, Says He Had Affair With Favour Agbro but Did Not Rape or Kill Her

The wife of Delta-based content creator Ifeanyi Ogbonna, popularly known as Odogwu Asaba, has publicly defended her husband amid allegations surrounding the death of 20-year-old Favour Agbro.

In a video shared on social media, the woman, whose name has not been disclosed, acknowledged that her husband had an affair with Favour but strongly denied allegations that he raped or killed the young woman.

According to her, the relationship between Ogbonna and Favour was consensual and should not be confused with the rape allegation currently being investigated by the police.

“Odogwu Asaba did not kill anybody. I know my husband. Odogwu Asaba did not rape Favour. Odogwu Asaba only had an affair with the girl,” she said.

She also urged Nigerians not to determine the outcome of the case through social-media commentary, stressing that the matter should be handled through due process.

“Social media is not a courtroom,” she said, according to reports of the video.

The woman said she had remained silent while following developments surrounding the case and had decided to speak after gathering what she described as more information.

She reaffirmed her loyalty to her husband, saying their marriage and family remained important to her.

“No matter what happened, he is my husband and I stand with him 100%,” she said.

The case stems from allegations involving Favour Agbro, who reportedly travelled to Asaba after Ogbonna allegedly offered to help her with content creation and social-media monetisation.

Police allegations reported by Nigerian media state that Ogbonna subsequently took Favour to a hotel, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted and physically abused. Favour later ingested a toxic substance and died while receiving treatment.

Following a petition concerning the incident, the Delta State Police Command arrested Ogbonna and said he would be charged to court as investigations continued.

Police have also investigated the circumstances surrounding Favour's death, including an autopsy after her body was exhumed in July.

While acknowledging that her husband had an affair with Favour, Ogbonna's wife rejected the suggestion that he was responsible for the young woman's death.

She said her husband would have the opportunity to present his own account of what happened.

The competing accounts have intensified public debate, but the allegations against Ogbonna have not been established by a court. His arrest and investigation do not amount to a conviction, while his wife's assertion that the encounter was an affair rather than rape remains her account of events.

The case is expected to remain under investigation as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding Favour Agbro's death and the allegations against Ogbonna.
