Concern is growing over the reported abduction of a group of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were travelling from Bayelsa State after their vehicle was allegedly attacked along a road in Kogi State.
A social media user, Onwa_Nnewi (@Kene_Nnewi), raised the alarm in an urgent post, claiming that his sister and other corps members were among those travelling when the incident occurred.
According to the post, the vehicle came under attack along what was described as the Kogi Express Road. The driver was reportedly killed during the attack, while the corps members were allegedly taken into a nearby forest.
The family says it has not been able to establish contact with the victims since the incident, heightening fears over their safety.
The poster said the matter had been reported to the police but claimed that the family had yet to receive a positive update on efforts to locate and rescue the missing corps members.
The family is now appealing directly to the NYSC, Federal Government and security agencies to urgently intervene and intensify efforts to locate the victims.
In the emotional appeal, the family described the corps members as “someone's children, siblings and loved ones,” urging Nigerians to amplify the report and draw the attention of relevant authorities.
The reported incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of corps members and other travellers using highways across parts of Nigeria, particularly routes where kidnapping and armed attacks have previously been reported.
However, the claims contained in the social media post have not independently been verified, including the exact number of corps members allegedly abducted, the identity of the victims, the circumstances surrounding the reported killing of the driver and the current status of any rescue operation.
Authorities will need to establish the facts surrounding the incident and provide timely information to the affected families.
For relatives waiting for news, however, the priority remains clear: locate the missing corps members and bring them home safely.
As the appeal gains attention online, families and concerned Nigerians are calling for urgent action before the situation deteriorates further.
