Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori says economic reforms and improved financial autonomy for local governments are enabling councils to meet salary obligations and execute more development projects.
The governor spoke during the inauguration of a new administrative complex and access road at the Oshimili South Local Government Secretariat in Asaba.
For years, financial constraints limited the ability of many local governments to effectively meet their responsibilities and deliver development projects at the grassroots level.
However, increased resources available to councils are beginning to improve the situation in parts of Delta State.
The newly completed administrative complex and access road were executed under the leadership of the Oshimili South Local Government administration.
Officials say the new facility is expected to improve working conditions and strengthen service delivery to residents.
The inauguration also provided an opportunity for the traditional institution to honour distinguished individuals for their contributions to community development.
The developments reflect growing attention to political reconciliation, institutional accountability and grassroots development as Nigeria moves closer to another major election cycle.
