A self-acclaimed Abuja youth leader has sparked controversy after alleging that opposition political actors are responsible for ongoing insecurity in Nigeria, claiming that some groups are attempting to destabilize the country to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement circulating online, the youth leader alleged that political opponents are fueling unrest with the aim of forcefully taking over power from the current government.
“Opposition are behind insecurity in Nigeria, they’re desperate to take power forcefully from Tinubu,” he said.
The remarks have generated mixed reactions across social media, with many Nigerians questioning the basis of the claim, while others dismissed it as political rhetoric typical of heightened tensions in the country’s political space.
Security experts note that Nigeria’s insecurity challenges are complex and involve multiple factors, including terrorism, banditry, economic hardship, and governance issues, and caution against attributing them solely to political opposition without credible evidence.
As of the time of filing this report, no evidence has been presented to support the allegation, and there has been no official response from major opposition parties regarding the statement.
Authorities have continued to call for unity and caution in public discourse, especially on sensitive national security matters.
