ADC Signals Readiness for 2027 as Nigeria Moves Toward Issue-Based Campaigns

With Nigeria's political parties preparing for the next phase of the 2027 general elections, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is positioning itself for an issue-based campaign focused on the concerns of ordinary Nigerians.

The development comes as political activities intensify following the conclusion of the Osun State governorship election, which political observers have described as an important indicator of what could shape Nigeria's wider political landscape ahead of 2027.

With campaigns expected to formally commence in the coming days, political parties are increasingly under pressure to present clear policy alternatives rather than rely solely on personalities, party structures and electoral rhetoric.

Speaking on the political transition, the Deputy National Financial Secretary of the ADC, Mr. Olanrewaju, said the party is prepared for the coming electoral contest and intends to engage voters directly on issues affecting their lives.

The party says its strategy will focus on engaging citizens and making them understand that the 2027 election is ultimately about their future and their ability to influence governance.

According to the party, its approach is different from what it described as the conventional political “noise-making” associated with election campaigns.

The ADC plans to unveil and publicise its presidential candidate's policy document, with emphasis expected on areas including security, the economy, transportation, job creation and improving living conditions.

The party believes that presenting concrete solutions to Nigeria's challenges will be more important than simply trading political accusations.

The ADC leadership also pointed to the Osun election as evidence that voters can influence electoral outcomes when they participate actively and protect their votes.

The argument is that political parties may possess significant resources and structures, but large numbers of voters can still determine the outcome when they participate and remain vigilant throughout the electoral process.

The Osun result has consequently intensified discussions about the ability of opposition parties to

The ADC also stressed that it would accept the outcome of the 2027 election regardless of whether the result favours the party, provided the process is free, fair and credible.

The party's position is that losing an election is acceptable when voters have genuinely made the decision.

However, it argues that political parties and citizens must continue demanding greater accountability from electoral institutions and ensuring that the electoral process is transparent.

As the campaign season approaches, political observers expect the coming months to provide a clearer picture of the strength of the various opposition parties and their ability to challenge the incumbent political structure.

Beyond campaign rallies and political alliances, parties will face pressure to demonstrate how their policies would address insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, inflation and declining public confidence in institutions.

For the ADC, the message is clear: the 2027 election should be about competing ideas and solutions, with voters empowered to judge political parties based on what they intend to deliver rather than merely who they represent.
