VeryDarkMan Criticizes Remarks Defending Tinubu's Security Efforts, Says Insecurity Should Be Government's Top Priority

Social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has criticized comments made by a public commentator who defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's handling of Nigeria's security challenges.

Reacting to the remarks in a video, VDM disagreed with the argument that President Tinubu has done his part simply by issuing directives to military and security chiefs as Commander-in-Chief.

According to VDM, the scale of insecurity under the current administration requires greater accountability, citing incidents of kidnappings, attacks on communities and the killing of civilians across different parts of the country.

He questioned the suggestion that Nigerians should refrain from criticizing the President's handling of security, arguing that citizens are justified in demanding improved safety and protection.

VDM also took issue with comments celebrating military airstrikes carried out during the Christmas period. He questioned why anyone would describe acts of war as exciting, emphasizing the human cost of armed conflict.

"What is exciting about war?" he asked, adding that bombings and military operations often have devastating consequences for affected communities.

The activist further rejected narratives that portray insecurity in Nigeria as targeting only one religious group. According to him, both Christians and Muslims, as well as adherents of traditional religions, have all suffered from attacks by criminal groups.

He argued that churches, mosques and religious leaders from different faiths have all been victims of violence, insisting that insecurity should not be viewed solely through a religious lens.

VDM called on religious leaders, civil society groups and Nigerians to continue putting pressure on the Federal Government and security agencies to improve security across the country.

He maintained that security should take precedence over economic discussions, arguing that economic reforms cannot be fully appreciated while many citizens continue to face kidnappings, attacks and fear for their safety.

"As long as people cannot live safely, security must remain the priority," he said.

The Federal Government has repeatedly stated that it is committed to tackling insecurity through military operations, intelligence gathering and security sector reforms. Officials have also maintained that efforts are ongoing to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.

VDM's remarks have since generated discussions on social media, with users expressing differing views on the government's security performance and the need for sustained action to protect lives and property.
