Sowore Celebrates Wole Soyinka at 92, Pays Tribute to Nobel Laureate

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has felicitated renowned literary icon Wole Soyinka on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.

In a birthday message, Sowore described Soyinka as Africa's first Nobel Laureate in Literature and praised his lifelong contributions to literature, justice, and the defence of human rights.

"Today belongs to Prof. Wole Soyinka as he marks his 92nd birthday," Sowore wrote.

He further hailed the celebrated playwright as "a towering intellectual, playwright, poet, and one of the continent's most enduring voices for justice, freedom, and the dignity of humanity."

Sowore prayed for Soyinka's continued good health and strength, expressing hope that the literary giant would enjoy many more years of inspiring generations through his courage, intellect, and commitment to truth.

"I wish Prof. Soyinka good health, continued strength, and many more years of inspiring generations with his courage, intellect, and unwavering commitment to truth. Happy 92nd Birthday, Prof. Wole Soyinka!" he added.

Professor Soyinka, a globally acclaimed playwright, essayist, poet, and public intellectual, made history in 1986 when he became the first African to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Over the decades, he has remained a prominent voice on democracy, human rights, governance, and social justice, earning international recognition for both his literary works and civic engagement.
