Kenneth Okonkwo: Nigeria's Challenge Is Not Lack of Ideas but Poor Implementation

The newly elected ADC presidential campaign spokesperson and actor Kenneth Okonkwo has said Nigeria's biggest challenge is not the absence of good policies or visionary plans but the persistent failure of political leaders to implement them effectively.

Speaking during an interview, Okonkwo argued that successive governments have produced ambitious development agendas aimed at promoting national unity, security, economic prosperity, quality education, and improved governance. However, he said many of these plans have failed to deliver meaningful results because of poor implementation.

According to him, the country needs leaders who will move beyond making promises to taking concrete action.

"The problem of this country is implementation. Enough of all these promises. Nigeria needs leaders who will be men and women of action," he said.

Okonkwo noted that Nigeria has the resources and potential to become a prosperous nation if governments faithfully implement policies designed to improve the lives of citizens.

Addressing questions about his previous comments regarding the selection of a vice-presidential candidate for the 2023 presidential election, Okonkwo denied opposing Rotimi Amaechi personally.

He explained that his position at the time was based on his belief that, for political balance and inclusion, the vice-presidential slot should ideally have gone to the South-East rather than reflecting opposition to any individual.

"I never opposed Rotimi Amaechi as a person. He was the choice of the party, and every loyal party member should support the party's decision," he said.

Okonkwo added that the provisions of Nigeria's electoral laws limited the available options, as only individuals who met the legal requirements and had participated in the party process could be considered.

He further acknowledged Amaechi's strong showing during the party's presidential primary, saying the former Rivers State governor had secured substantial support among party delegates.

Reiterating his message, Okonkwo called on Nigeria's political leaders to prioritize effective governance, accountability, and the implementation of policies capable of delivering tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
