The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun Disu, has assured residents of Osun State of the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring a peaceful environment across the state.
Speaking during a visit to Osun State, the IGP stressed that the police would remain professional in carrying out their constitutional responsibilities and warned that individuals or groups involved in criminal activities would be brought to justice.
He said the police would not tolerate violence, intimidation or any act capable of undermining public safety, adding that officers had been directed to act impartially and uphold the rule of law.
The IGP also appealed to residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could assist in crime prevention and the arrest of criminal suspects.
Addressing concerns raised by members of the public, he acknowledged the challenges facing policing in the country but assured residents that the Force remains committed to improving security despite operational constraints.
Governor Ademola Adeleke welcomed the IGP's visit, describing it as a demonstration of the police leadership's commitment to addressing security concerns in the state.
The governor praised the Inspector-General for responding to his requests for intervention and expressed confidence that the deployment of additional security measures would help preserve peace and public order.
According to Adeleke, the visit marked the first time an Inspector-General of Police had paid an official security visit to Osun State during his administration, describing the gesture as timely and reassuring.
He recalled reaching out to the police leadership over security concerns and thanked the IGP for responding promptly to the situation.
Governor Adeleke also called for professional, fair and impartial policing, urging security personnel to enforce the law without fear or favour. He emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of Nigeria's democratic process and ensuring that every eligible voter can exercise their constitutional rights in a peaceful atmosphere.
The governor further appealed to security agencies to investigate and prosecute anyone found to have committed criminal offences, regardless of political affiliation or social status.
The visit comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State, with security agencies reaffirming their commitment to maintaining peace, safeguarding residents and ensuring that public order is preserved throughout the state.
