Governor Makinde Calls for UN, International Human Rights Investigation Into Oriire School Abduction

Governor Seyi Makinde has called on the United Nations and international human rights organizations to investigate the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The governor made the appeal amid growing concern over the fate of the victims, urging the international community to pay closer attention to the incident and support efforts to secure the safe release of those abducted.

According to Makinde, the kidnapping of students and teachers is not only a security challenge but also a grave violation of fundamental human rights that warrants international scrutiny.

He appealed to the United Nations and global human rights bodies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and to lend support to efforts aimed at ensuring justice and accountability.

The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to working with security agencies to secure the safe return of the victims and strengthen measures to protect schools across the state.

The Oriire abduction has generated widespread concern within and outside Oyo State, with civil society organizations, political leaders, and members of the public calling for intensified rescue efforts and improved security around educational institutions.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the United Nations nor any international human rights organization had publicly responded to Governor Makinde's appeal. Authorities continue efforts to rescue the abducted schoolchildren and teachers while investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
