Social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has reacted to reports surrounding the alleged arrest of a young man said to be linked to the circulation of an AI-generated audio involving President Bola Tinubu.
In a video statement shared online, VDM claimed that the individual recently mentioned by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga may have been wrongly identified in connection with the controversial audio clip. He suggested that the arrested suspect might not be responsible for creating the artificial intelligence-generated content that sparked public debate.
VDM further alleged that the situation represents a case of mistaken identity, stating that the person accused may be innocent of the allegations being circulated online. He also referenced earlier public disagreements over claims that he had any involvement in spreading the AI-generated audio.
According to him, “it seems an innocent man may have been affected,” though these claims have not been independently verified by security agencies or government authorities.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, or the Presidency confirming the details of the alleged arrest or responding to the specific claims made by VDM.
The controversy comes amid growing concerns over the use of artificial intelligence in generating misleading audio and video content, as well as ongoing debates about misinformation, digital accountability, and law enforcement procedures in Nigeria’s online space.
Authorities are expected to provide clarity as public interest in the matter continues to rise.
