Tech Expert Claims Miscommunication in DSS Arrest Linked to AI-Generated Video Investigation

A tech analyst involved in tracing the origins of an alleged AI-generated video featuring President Bola Tinubu has raised concerns over the circumstances surrounding the reported arrest of a suspect identified as Ifechukwu Dennis.

In a statement shared on social media, the tech expert claimed that Dennis was reportedly picked up by unknown individuals after his family contacted him regarding the situation. He further alleged that there may have been a breakdown in communication between him and government representatives during the investigation process.

According to the claim, the expert stated that he had conducted independent digital analysis on the controversial AI-generated video, which also involved online personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan. He suggested that while the circulation of misinformation could warrant sanctions, the individual allegedly detained was not the original creator of the content.

He also alleged that Bayo Onanuga, a presidential aide, should have contacted him before security operatives reportedly became involved in the case, insisting that his technical investigation preceded any official action.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from the Department of State Services (DSS) or the Presidency regarding the alleged arrest or the claims made by the tech expert.

The incident has sparked renewed debate around digital misinformation, the use of AI-generated content, and the appropriate balance between cybersecurity enforcement and due process in Nigeria’s evolving digital space.

Authorities are yet to issue a detailed statement clarifying the situation.
